Water Conservation Tips

  • Every Drop CountsCheck for and repair household leaks (ex., toilets, faucets, water-using appliances, etc.)  FREE toilet dye strips used for leak detection are available at the Authority office.
  • Use washing machines and dishwashers less often and only with full loads.
  • Take shorter showers and shallower baths.
  • Turn off shower while soaping and turn off faucet while brushing teeth, shaving, etc.
  • Install flow restrictors in faucets and shower heads.
  • Use sink and tub stoppers.
  • Reduce number of toilet flushes per day and install water displacement inserts in toilets that use over 1.6 gallons per flush.
  • Keep bottle of chilled drinking water in refrigerator.
  • Make sure water softeners are working properly.
  • Adjust water-using appliances to use minimum amount of water to achieve appliance's purpose.
  • When mowing your lawn, set the blades 2-3 inches high. Longer grass shades the soil, improving moisture retention.
  • Water your garden less often and only in the cooler evening or morning hours.  Direct the water to the ground at the base of the plant.
  • Skip the car washing.  If you have to wash your car, it’s better environmentally to go to a drive-through car wash that recycles the water.
  • Sweep your sidewalk, deck, or driveway instead of hosing it off.

Remember…. The watering of existing, established lawns is prohibited.  The only exception is the watering of newly-seeded lawns during the growing season of the year in which seeding has occurred. Click here for more information.
